Man Hospitalized in Critical Condition After Severe Heatstroke in Madrid
A 46‑year‑old man was admitted in serious condition to Hospital Clínico San Carlos on July 13 after suffering a severe heatstroke on a public street in the Latina district of Madrid. Emergency services recorded a body temperature of 41 °C, low consciousness, and applied advanced life‑support measures, including rapid cooling, hydration, and airway protection before transporting him under police escort.
The case occurs amid an extreme summer heatwave in the Community of Madrid, which has now recorded more than 150 deaths directly linked to high temperatures, reaching a historic total of 152 fatalities since early June. The surge reflects a rapid increase compared with the previous year and aligns with a nationwide rise to over 1,000 heat‑related deaths in June, the highest ever recorded for that month since monitoring began in 2015.
