Man in Kushtia accused of selling newborn and staging theft

In Kushtia's Mirpur Upazila, a father named Mohammad Alauddin has been accused of selling his two-day-old son for 25,000 BDT and subsequently staging a theft to cover the crime.

Alauddin initially filed a general diary at the Mirpur police station, claiming his infant had been stolen from a private clinic following a cesarean section. However, during the police investigation, inconsistencies in family statements led to the discovery that the child had been sold.

Police recovered the newborn from Anis, a village practitioner in Nauda Khadimpur village, who reportedly purchased the child for upbringing purposes due to having no children of his own. While some local residents suggest the child may have been sold at a higher price under the guise of theft, police are still investigating. The infant has been returned to the mother's custody, and legal proceedings against those involved are underway.
