Man in Shaanxi loses 900,000 NDT to online scam

A 49-year-old man named Wang in Hanzhong, Shaanxi province, lost over 900,000 NDT (approximately 3.2 billion VND) to a sophisticated online scam within a 30-hour period.

The fraud began on a messaging application where a woman initiated contact with Wang. Under the guise of arranging a meeting, the woman convinced him to register for a VIP card. The scam utilized a “task-based” method where Wang was initially encouraged to make small deposits, which were promptly returned with a small profit to build trust.

After several successful small transactions, Wang was lured into making much larger transfers. Over the course of 30 hours, he completed 45 transactions totaling 909,329.9 NDT. The funds used included 460,000 NDT from family savings and an additional 440,000 NDT obtained through loans from relatives and banks.
