Campo Grande tobacco shop shooting kills one, injures three

In the early hours of Sunday, May 5, a gun attack occurred inside a tobacco shop on Rua Francisco Pereira Coutinho in the Nova Lima neighbourhood of Campo Grande, Brazil. Two armed men entered the premises targeting a 21‑year‑old man; the victim was shot in the chest and abdomen while trying to flee.

A nearby metropolitan civil guard confronted the suspects, ordered them to surrender, and fired when they refused and pointed weapons at him. One suspect, 24, was hit in the torso and died at the scene; the other, an 18‑year‑old, was wounded in the left leg, escaped briefly, and was later taken to Santa Casa under police escort. Two additional people were injured: the original target and a 21‑year‑old who sought treatment independently.

Police seized a .357 revolver from the deceased suspect and the guard's .40 Taurus pistol for forensic examination. A Honda CG 150 Titan motorcycle used by the attackers was also impounded. The incident is under investigation by the Civil Police, which is probing the motive and any further accomplices.
