Man on house arrest attacks wife and son with knife in Castelnovo Sotto, Italy

A 54‑year‑old man who had been released from prison and placed under house arrest in Castelnovo Sotto, Reggio Emilia, accused his wife of infidelity and began a violent assault on her and their 21‑year‑old son. Early on 20 June 2026 he chased the pair with a kitchen knife after earlier threats and property damage, forcing them to flee into nearby fields. The assailant slipped into a ditch, allowing the family to escape, and was intercepted by Carabinieri who found him still armed. Police discovered a loaded 38‑calibre pistol in a tool shed at the home. During transport to the station the man struck the police vehicle, injuring his eyebrow and hands, and required medical attention. He was subsequently arrested and returned to custody by the Reggio Emilia prosecutor's office.
