Man rearrested on deportation order after Citywest assault charges dropped

A 27-year-old man has been rearrested on a deportation order immediately following the dismissal of sexual assault charges against him. The man had been accused of two counts of sexual assault in Citywest, Dublin, in October 2025.

The original allegations were linked to a period of three days of rioting outside an International Protection Accommodation Services (IPAS) centre in Citywest. During those riots, 37 people were arrested and 28 were subsequently charged with criminal offences.

In the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, the State entered a ‘nolle prosequi’, meaning the charges were being withdrawn. Although Judge Martin Nolan directed the man's release from Midlands Prison, he was immediately taken into custody by officers from the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) on the grounds of a deportation order.
