Man sentenced for dog abuse in Puebla, Mexico

A court in Puebla, Mexico declared Luis N. guilty of animal cruelty for severely injuring a dog named Huesitos by throwing a stone at the sleeping animal on a sidewalk in Santiago Miahuatlán. The case, which drew public outrage after the incident was reported last year, led to the defendant's detention and a hearing on June 11 where the maximum penalty of eight years' imprisonment is being sought.

The conviction follows an investigation by the Fiscalía General de Justicia and advocacy by the animal‑protection group TAC Una Protección al Entorno A.C., which rescued Huesitos after he suffered serious injuries and fractures. The organization highlighted that the initial arrest was for public disorder, not animal cruelty, and called for the harshest sentence.
