Man sentenced to 25 years for killing Army medical captain

Elton Hilton Herculano de Lima has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for the murder of Rosângela da Silva Santos do Nascimento, a 41-year-old Army medical captain. The crime occurred in March 2023 in the Cachambi neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro.

According to the prosecution and autopsy reports, the victim died from mechanical asphyxiation and exogenous intoxication. The jury determined the crime was committed due to the defendant's inability to accept the end of their romantic relationship. The court found that the defendant acted with cruelty and used base motives, noting that he attempted to stage the scene to simulate a suicide by leaving behind medication ampoules.

At the time of the murder, the defendant was a law student who had interned at a specialized criminal court. The trial was presided over by Judge Lúcia Glioche.
