Goiânia jury convicts two police officers for killing lawyer Davi Sebba

A jury in Goiânia has convicted two military police officers for the 2012 killing of lawyer Davi Sebba Ramalho. Jonathas Atenevir Jordão received a 12-year sentence for qualified homicide, while Edinailton Pereira de Souza was sentenced to 10 years for homicide and illegal possession of a firearm with a filed-off serial number.

A third defendant, Luiz Frederico de Oliveira, was acquitted. The trial concluded 14 years after the incident occurred in a supermarket parking lot.

The family of Davi Sebba expressed dissatisfaction with the ruling, stating that the sentences are disproportionate to the gravity of the crime and criticizing the lack of immediate imprisonment for the convicted. They have called for greater transparency regarding police lethality in the state of Goiás.

The Public Ministry of Goiás (MPGO) has announced it will appeal the decision to the Court of Justice of Goiás (TJGO). The prosecution seeks to increase the sentences and secure the immediate imprisonment of the defendants.
