Man sentenced to prison for stealing Richard Lugner's Ferrari
A 30-year-old man has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison for the theft of a Ferrari belonging to the family of the late Austrian entrepreneur Richard Lugner. The defendant confessed to stealing the luxury vehicle, valued at approximately 100,000 euros, from an underground garage in Wiener Neudorf in April 2025. Following the theft, the car was transported to Slovakia.
The defendant claimed he received only 5,000 euros for the vehicle from an individual identified only as Mario. While the defendant was convicted, his 54-year-old father was acquitted. Although a Mercedes registered to the father was used during the crime, phone records indicated the father's mobile device was logged in in Slovakia at the time of the theft.
The stolen Ferrari, which had been in the Lugner family for 25 years, remains missing. Investigations suggest a Slovakian gang may be involved, having reportedly scouted the garage a year prior to the incident. Two other Ferraris in the same garage were left behind because the perpetrators were unable to start them. Proceedings for a third Slovakian suspect have been separated due to health reasons.
