Man sentenced to six years for arson in Castro Urdiales
A man has been sentenced to six years in prison for setting fire to his mother's home in Castro Urdiales in June 2024. The incident occurred after his mother refused to provide him with money for drugs.
The defendant admitted to the charges during a trial at the Audiencia Provincial de Cantabria. The court applied mitigating factors due to drug addiction-related mental anomalies and procedural delays, resulting in a sentence four years shorter than the prosecution's initial request.
In addition to prison time, the individual must pay 5,031 euros to his mother for property damage and 963 euros to the local City Council to cover firefighter expenses. The court has declared the sentence final following an agreement between the parties not to appeal.
