Man seriously injured in Madrid apartment fire

A 67-year-old man is in serious condition following an apartment fire in the Carabanchel district of Madrid. The incident occurred late Sunday night in a fourth-floor residence on Calle Laguna.

The fire originated in the kitchen for unknown reasons, spreading to furniture and appliances throughout the unit. Madrid firefighters divided their response into two teams: one to extinguish the flames and another to search for the resident. The man was located in a bedroom and evacuated to the street.

Emergency medical personnel from SAMUR-Protección Civil treated the victim for smoke inhalation and burns covering 30% of his body. After being stabilized through airway isolation and mechanical ventilation, he was transported under police escort to the burn unit at Hospital La Paz with a very serious prognosis.
