Man sets himself on fire in Manhattan building housing Google offices
A 63-year-old man set himself on fire in the lobby of 315 Hudson Street in Lower Manhattan, a building that houses Google offices. The incident occurred at approximately 2:58 p.m. on Friday.
Surveillance footage reportedly showed the man entering the building around 2 p.m., leaving, and returning about an hour later before the incident. Security staff at the building attempted to extinguish the flames before emergency responders arrived. The man was transported to Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he is reported to be in stable condition.
Authorities stated that no political leaflets or notes were found at the scene, though a collapsible baton was discovered inside the man's bag. While the motive remains unknown, a Google spokesperson clarified that the incident took place in the shared building lobby and not within Google's specific office space.
