Silver Rail Elementary School shooting in Oregon leaves four dead

A mass shooting occurred at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, leaving four people dead and two others injured. The victims include three children, aged five, eight, and 11, and 25-year-old teacher Megan Lambert. A seven-year-old student and a 54-year-old teacher were also wounded during the attack.

Authorities identified the shooter as 16-year-old Griffin J. John II, a former student of the school. The gunman used a 12-gauge Maverick 88 pump-action shotgun, which investigators believe was purchased by his mother. The attack targeted a classroom for students with special needs.

Before law enforcement arrived, the gunman was confronted by a teacher who physically struggled with him, and later by Kaylub Giamanco, a 36-year-old father of two students at the school. Giamanco, who was passing by and heard the gunfire, entered the building with a legally owned .40-caliber pistol and fatally shot the attacker. Bend Police Chief Mike Krantz praised both the teacher and Giamanco for their actions in preventing further bloodshed.
