Man swept from Ciudad Juárez into El Paso by floodwaters

A man was swept away by heavy floodwaters in Ciudad Juárez on Saturday, October 24, eventually washing up on the United States side of the Rio Grande in El Paso, Texas.

The incident occurred near the intersection of Arroyo de las Víboras and Avenida Norzagaray. Witnesses reported that the driver attempted to stay with his vehicle despite rising currents. In one account, bystanders attempted a rescue using an improvised rope, but the man was unable to grab it, reportedly because he was holding a mobile phone.

After being carried by the current, the man swam through the Rio Grande near the “Las Cuatro Compuertas” area and reached the American side. He was subsequently encountered and assisted by U.S. Border Patrol agents. Authorities reported his condition as stable.
