Manabí Electoral Board rules on prefecture candidacies
The Manabí Provincial Electoral Board has issued several rulings regarding candidate eligibility for the prefecture and vice-prefecture positions.
The Board denied the registration of Luisa Magdalena González Alcívar and Gabriel Enrique Giler Reyes, candidates for the Pachakutik Movement. The decision was based on the candidates' failure to meet internal party requirements, specifically the mandate that candidates must be active members of the movement for at least two years. Pachakutik has 48 hours to rectify these candidacies.
In a separate ruling, the Board approved the candidacy of Marcos Tulio Zambrano Zambrano for Prefect of Manabí, alongside Hellen Mieles Cedeño for Vice-Prefect. The Board rejected an objection filed by the Decide movement, which argued that Zambrano had not resigned from his position as Rector of the Universidad Laica Eloy Alfaro de Manabí (Uleam). After reviewing constitutional and organic laws regarding public servants, the Board determined his status did not disqualify him from the electoral process.
