Management degrees outperform Economics in Portuguese university entrance scores
Management degree entrance scores have consistently surpassed Economics scores across 13 Portuguese public universities, according to data from the 2026 National Access Competition.
This trend of higher demand for Management is evident in both high-ranking and lower-ranking institutions. At the University of Porto (FEP), the last admitted student in Management scored 17.83 compared to 17.35 in Economics. Similarly, at Nova School of Business and Economics, Management recorded 17.68 against 17.47 for Economics.
The gap is even more pronounced in other institutions. At the University of Aveiro, Management scored 17.55 versus 16.13 for Economics, while the University of Beira Interior showed a difference of 2.75 points, with Management at 14.30 and Economics at 11.55. Other universities showing this pattern include Minho, ISEG, ISCTE, Coimbra, Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, the Azores, Évora, and Madeira.
