Management quality determines success of remote and hybrid work

Organizations transitioning to remote or hybrid models face significant managerial hurdles, including communication gaps caused by time zone differences and a lack of face-to-face interaction. Effective management requires addressing performance monitoring, setting clear KPIs, and utilizing project management software to prevent micromanagement while maintaining accountability.

A study from the London School of Economics involving over 800 British firms indicates that remote work success depends heavily on management quality rather than the work location itself. The research found that firms mandating a full return to the office often experienced declines in collaboration and general management satisfaction. Conversely, organizations that successfully adapted to flexible working reported improvements in employee wellbeing, recruitment, innovation, and productivity.
