Managing chronic fatigue through lifestyle balance and nutrition
Managing chronic fatigue involves both lifestyle adjustments and addressing potential physiological deficiencies. The ‘8+8+8 rule’ offers a framework for better time management by dividing the day into three equal parts: eight hours for work or study, eight hours for personal life and relationships, and eight hours for sleep. This concept, rooted in the 19th-century labor movement, aims to help individuals establish boundaries to protect mental health and energy levels.
According to the World Health Organization, most adults require seven to nine hours of sleep to protect cardiovascular and neurological health. Chronic sleep deprivation is linked to increased risks of hypertension, stroke, and impaired concentration.
Beyond lifestyle, persistent fatigue may stem from nutritional deficiencies. According to Harvard Health, symptoms such as brain fog, palpitations, and dizziness can be caused by low levels of iron, ferritin, vitamin B12, folate, vitamin D, magnesium, or electrolyte imbalances. Medical diagnostics, including blood tests for thyroid function and nutrient levels, are recommended to identify specific causes before starting supplementation.
