Managua and Los Ángeles announce major cemetery expansion projects
Managua is expanding its burial capacity through the construction of two new cemeteries and the expansion of an existing one. According to Daysi Serrano, Director of the Managua City Hall, the San Luis cemetery in the North Highway area will provide 9,000 lots, while the Esquipulas site will offer approximately 4,200 lots. Additionally, the expansion of the Caminos del Cielo cemetery will add 2,000 lots, totaling 15,700 new available spaces. Works include perimeter walls and earthworks to ensure security.
In Los Ángeles, Chile, the Municipal Council has approved an investment exceeding $520 million to develop a new general cemetery and crematorium in the Alto Los Mayos sector. The project aims to replace the current cemetery, which is nearing capacity. The development includes $280 million for vaulted mausoleums, $50 million for a tensile structure, and additional funds for landscaping and interior roads. Mayor José Pérez Arriagada noted that the facility will feature a crematorium, providing a public alternative to the private services currently available in the south-central region.
