Manaslu sees record number of climbing permits
Mount Manaslu is experiencing a record-breaking climbing season, with the number of foreign climbing permits reaching unprecedented levels. According to the Nepal Ministry of Tourism, approximately 466 to 480 permits have been granted to foreign climbers from 40 commercial teams, a figure comparable to the record-setting spring season on Mount Everest.
Due to the high volume of climbers, Manaslu Base Camp is hosting over 1,000 people, including local guides and support staff. This influx has led to visible queues on the mountain's fixed-rope routes as teams rotate toward higher camps.
In related news from the region, Dawa Norbu Lama, a resident of Samagaun, has announced plans to begin a hunger strike at the Manaslu Base Camp to draw attention to the impacts of climate change on the Himalayan ecosystem.
