Manauara Clandestina to present Amazonian installation at Gwangju Biennale

Visual artist Manauara Clandestina will present a new textile installation titled ‘A Cobra Grande’ at the 16th Gwangju Biennale in South Korea. The work is part of the exhibition ‘Devorações do Amanhã – Brasil em rebento’, which marks the first time a Brazilian Pavilion has been featured at the event.

Scheduled to run from September 5 to November 15, 2026, at the Gwangju History & Folk Museum, the monumental installation was created in collaboration with Henrique de Farias. The piece uses functional clothing, work uniforms, and fabrics to explore Amazonian mythology and the lived experience of migration, using the legend of the ‘Cobra Grande’ as a metaphor for identity and movement.
