Manaus and Santarém upgrade road signage to boost traffic safety

The municipality of Manaus, through the Institute of Urban Mobility, has completed road‑signaling work on 726 streets across 57 neighborhoods between January and May 2026. The effort involved 171 service orders, the installation of about 33,000 m² of horizontal markings, 124 regulatory signs, 507 pedestrian‑crossing strips and a new traffic light at a key location. Director of Road Signage Lucas Pimentel said, “Our work goes far beyond painting stripes; each intervention is technically planned to increase safety and better organize traffic.”

In Santarém, the municipal Mobility and Traffic Secretariat resumed repainting and refreshing horizontal markings on major corridors, including the Borges Leal and Rui Barbosa avenues in the Centro, Aldeia, Santa Clara and Prainha districts. Secretary Marcelino Xavier emphasized that “road signage is a fundamental tool for preventing accidents and organizing traffic,” noting the continuous maintenance aims to keep markings visible and reduce risks for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.
