Manaus municipality rolls out safety, transport and education initiatives
The Manaus city government reported several municipal actions this week. A technical report from the Institute of Municipal Urban Mobility (IMMU) recorded 223 maintenance orders for automatic bus‑station doors between February and June 2026, with 41.7% (93 cases) caused by vandalism and misuse. The vandalism cost roughly R$31,000, nearly matching the total preventive‑maintenance spend. IMMU vice‑president Uaroldi Guedes warned, “These automatic doors were installed to ensure safety, accessibility and speed for thousands of users; protecting public assets is everyone's responsibility.”
IMMU also conducted a “Transporte Legal” operation, stopping eight irregular passenger‑transport vehicles, issuing four fines and seizing two for operating without authorization. The initiative aims to curb clandestine transport and improve rider safety.
In the education sector, IMMU delivered its “Trânsito na Escola” program to students at the Cleonice Menezes municipal school, teaching traffic rules, pedestrian safety and responsible road behavior. Meanwhile, the city’s Procon department ran a “Procon Manaus nas Escolas” session for over 200 children, educating them on consumer rights and responsible consumption.
The municipal education secretariat (Semed) celebrated the graduation of 63 public‑servant participants from its “Ampliando Horizontes” program, which provides free courses in English, Spanish and Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) to municipal employees and their families.
