Manaus hosts Feira do Tambaqui featuring 8 tons of sustainable fish
The Feira do Tambaqui will take place this Saturday in Manaus, offering 8 tons of fish sourced from the rivers and lakes of the Mamirauá Sustainable Development Reserve (RDS). The event will be held at the headquarters of the Fundação Amazônia Sustentável (FAS) in Parque Dez de Novembro, starting at 7:00 AM.
This initiative involves 53 managers and directly benefits 21 families from the São Francisco do Mangueira and Catiti riverside communities located in the Macopani sector. The fish are harvested through sustainable management practices, allowing for direct commercialization that ensures revenue returns to the local communities.
Prices for the tambaqui vary by weight: up to 3 kg for R$ 11/kg, 3.001 to 5 kg for R$ 15/kg, 5.001 to 6.999 kg for R$ 17/kg, and 7 kg or more for R$ 20/kg. The fair is promoted by the Associação dos Produtores do Setor Macopani (APSM) with support from FAS, Amurman, and Ibama.
