Manaus hosts inclusive education and sports events for disability awareness

In Manaus, Brazil, various initiatives were held to mark the National Week of Persons with Intellectual and Multiple Disabilities.

The Manaus Municipal Education Secretariat (Semed) hosted the 3rd Inclusive Education Showcase at the OAB-AM club. The event featured 36 stands presenting pedagogical practices, adapted teaching resources, and methodologies designed for students with disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and high abilities. Education Secretary Arone Bentes emphasized the necessity of integration between schools, professionals, and families to strengthen inclusive education. The showcase highlighted the work of 303 multifunctional resource rooms within the municipal network.

Additionally, Apae Manaus participated in Adapted Games organized by the District Education Coordination (CDE) 3. Sixteen individuals from the institution competed in various sports, including chess, futsal, athletics, and track events such as the 100-meter dash and long jump. Ione Tôma, president of Apae Manaus, noted that sports serve as a vital tool for fostering autonomy, self-esteem, and social inclusion.
