Manaus officials address rapid birth at Moura Tapajóz Maternity Ward

The Manaus Municipal Health Secretariat (Semsa) issued a statement regarding a birth that occurred during the intake process at the Moura Tapajóz Maternity Ward on August 14. Following the circulation of a video showing the birth, the city administration clarified that the patient arrived at the facility already in the expulsion phase of labor.

According to Semsa, the rapid progression of labor led to the birth while the patient was being moved to a medical treatment area. The municipality stated that a qualified obstetric nurse was present from the moment of admission and provided immediate assistance. Both the mother and the newborn were reported to be in good clinical condition following the event.

In separate municipal actions, the city also distributed 85,000 fish to 5,000 families in the Redenção and Tarumã neighborhoods through the ‘Jaraqui da Gente’ program. Additionally, Semsa delivered contraceptive implants to the Compaj penitentiary complex to serve 72 incarcerated individuals and 60 staff members.
