Manaus faces water disruptions and poor air quality

Manaus is facing multiple urban challenges, including significant water supply disruptions and poor air quality. Two major pipe bursts on Avenida Coronel Teixeira and Avenida Ipase caused flooding and traffic diversions in the West and Central-West zones. While Águas de Manaus has begun emergency repairs and gradual water restoration, some neighborhoods may face up to 48 hours for full service normalization.

Simultaneously, the city is experiencing severe air pollution due to smoke. Monitoring sensors have recorded ‘péssimo’ (terrible) air quality levels in areas like Compensa, with particle concentrations reaching 129.5 µg/m³. This follows several recent episodes of heavy smoke in the region.

In infrastructure news, the upper ramp of the Passarão Road Complex has been opened to traffic to alleviate congestion in the West Zone. The project, which is 47% complete, aims to improve flow at the intersection of Avenida Brasil and Avenida Coronel Teixeira.
