Manaus police investigate contract killing of transgender woman

Police in Amazonas have revealed details regarding the murder of Paloma, a 28-year-old transgender woman in Manaus. Investigators state the killing was motivated by a dispute that occurred at a local establishment in the Jorge Teixeira neighborhood.

According to the Amazonas Civil Police, a 16-year-old male allegedly bumped into the victim in a restroom, causing her to drop narcotics. Following a physical altercation where the victim reportedly slapped the teenager, the youth allegedly planned the murder. The teenager reportedly hired 26-year-old Jackson Silva dos Santos for R$ 1,000 to assist in the crime. The suspects monitored the victim's residence for two days before invading the home and fatally shooting her on September 27.
