Manaus regulator fines Águas de Manaus R$5 million for service violations
The Municipal Regulatory Agency for Delegated Public Services of Manaus (Ageman) issued 14 infringement notices to the water and sewage concessionaire Águas de Manaus for irregularities detected during inspections in the first half of 2026. The penalties total R$5 million and stem from problems with water and sewage service quality as well as substandard pavement repairs that affect road safety.
Ageman director‑president Ebenezer Bezerra said the agency acts “technically and impartially” and that the fines are a regulatory tool to ensure compliance with contractual quality standards. The concessionaire may appeal the infringements before the Municipal Council for Regulation and Supervision, which will review its defense.
The fines aim to compel corrective measures, improve service reliability for Manaus residents, and uphold the terms of the concession contract.
