Manaus removes over 2,500 tons of waste from waterfront

Manaus Mayor Renato Junior has intensified cleaning operations along the city's waterfront, particularly in the Manaus Moderna area. Due to the receding water levels of the Rio Negro, heavy machinery can now access areas that are typically submerged during the flood season, allowing for more extensive waste removal.

In 2026 alone, more than 2,500 tons of waste have been collected from the waterfront, streams, and rural communities. The operation involves over 500 public cleaning workers, 20 dump trucks, two large machines, and three barges. Since 2021, a total of 25,800 tons of waste have been removed from the waterfront.
