Manaus Student Wins International Award for Alzheimer Research

Ada Jamile Gomes de Oliveira, a student at the Colégio Militar de Manaus, placed fourth in the Translational Medical Science category at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) 2026 in Phoenix, Arizona. Her project, MeMO (Phase II), investigated binaural‑wave stimulation as a non‑invasive therapeutic approach for Alzheimer’s disease, showing reduced activity of neurodegenerative‑related genes and low cytotoxicity in human cell cultures. The achievement earned her a US $600 prize and marked the first time a student from the Colégio Militar de Manaus has been recognized at the world’s largest pre‑university science fair.

The award highlights emerging Brazilian talent in biomedical research and could inform future studies on non‑invasive treatments for neurodegenerative disorders.
