Manaus traffic deaths drop 33% in June 2026

The Municipal Mobility Institute (IMMU) reported that Manaus recorded 14 traffic fatalities in June 2026, a 33% decrease from the 21 deaths in June 2025. The first half of the year also saw a 27% reduction in pedestrian‑related deaths, with 35 fatalities compared with 48 in the same period of 2025.

City officials attribute the decline to a combination of traffic‑safety measures: weekly educational campaigns in schools and workplaces, installation of horizontal and vertical signage on 726 streets across more than 50 neighborhoods, the addition of over 500 new crosswalks, and expanded electronic radar enforcement to curb speeding. Improved safety was noted on previously high‑risk avenues such as Turismo, São Jorge, Tefé, Nilton Lins, Djalma Batista, Coronel Teixeira and Governador José Lindoso.
