Amazonas faces water shortages, air pollution, and legal investigations
The state of Amazonas is facing several critical issues. In Manaus, residents are experiencing severe water supply disruptions. Federal Deputy Amom Mandel has called upon the Public Ministry of Amazonas (MPAM) to investigate recurring interruptions in various neighborhoods, some lasting over 20 days. Additionally, MPAM is investigating frequent water main breaks in the Coronel Teixeira area that have affected multiple zones of the capital.
Environmental and safety concerns are also rising. Manaus has recorded ‘Very Bad’ air quality for consecutive days due to smoke from regional fires. In the interior, reports have surfaced regarding armed groups suspected of robbing river vessels in the Médio Solimões region.
Legal and administrative investigations are underway in other areas. In Juruá, the MPAM is investigating the former mayor, Dr. Júnior, for suspected embezzlement involving million-dollar contracts. Meanwhile, in Epitaciolândia, Acre, authorities arrested a man for allegedly establishing an irregular land subdivision and causing environmental damage to a permanent preservation area.
