Manavgat releases two tracked green sea turtles into the sea

Two green sea turtles, approximately seven years old, were released into the sea in the Manavgat district of Antalya, Turkey, following the completion of their treatment and rehabilitation.

The release was part of the ‘Green Sea Turtle Satellite Tracking Program’ conducted by the Association for the Protection and Preservation of Sea Turtles, Mediterranean Seals, and Coastal Ecosystems (DEKAFOK). To study their migration routes and feeding grounds, the turtles were fitted with satellite tracking devices.

Professor Dr. Ertan Taşkavak, an academic advisor from Ege University’s Faculty of Fisheries, noted that identifying the feeding areas of these turtles—specifically seagrass beds known as Posidonia—would allow researchers to protect both the species and the vital oxygen-producing ecosystems they inhabit.
