Manchester Airports Group hit by cyberattack exposing 8.7 million customers' data
Manchester Airports Group (MAG) has confirmed a major cyberattack targeting three UK airports: Manchester, London Stansted, and East Midlands. An unauthorized third party accessed the personal data of approximately 8.7 million customers.
The compromised information includes email addresses, phone numbers, vehicle registration numbers, and postcodes. Much of the accessed data is linked to in-airport Wi-Fi registrations, as well as car park, lounge, and Fast Track bookings. MAG noted that for the vast majority of customers, only email addresses were affected.
MAG emphasized that no bank or payment details were accessed during the breach, and passenger safety and aviation security were not compromised. Airport operations, including flights and parking services, remain unaffected. However, the online ‘Manage My Booking’ service at Stansted was temporarily suspended. The group is working with specialist advisors and relevant authorities to manage the incident and has advised affected customers to remain vigilant against potential phishing attempts.
