Manchester City begins pre‑season under new boss Enzo Maresca
Enzo Maresca started his first full pre‑season with Manchester City, overseeing training for a squad largely made up of fringe players while the World Cup‑participating first‑team members remain on an extended break. The day’s group included Rico Lewis, Jack Grealish, Kalvin Phillips and Nico Gonzalez, all of whom have uncertain futures at the club, as well as younger prospects such as Savinho and Abdukodir Khusanov.
Maresca also faces immediate decisions on squad size and leadership after the departure of Bernardo Silva. With no captain appointed, the new manager will consider options such as Rodri, Ruben Dias or other senior players. The club’s pre‑season will culminate with an Asian tour, beginning with a friendly against Inter Milan in Hong Kong on 1 August, where Maresca will get a fuller view of the squad ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
