Manchester City chairman defends club amid financial breach reports

Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has expressed confidence in the club’s ability to prove its innocence following reports that an independent commission found the club guilty of 114 of 115 alleged breaches of Premier League financial rules. The charges, which cover the period between 2009 and 2018, include allegations of failing to provide accurate financial information, inaccurate details regarding payments to players and coaches, breaching financial sustainability rules, and failing to cooperate with investigations.

Al Mubarak stated that the club intends to appeal if the reports are confirmed, noting that the Premier League process is ongoing. He emphasized that the club’s intent to vindicate itself remains strong despite attempts to undermine its momentum.

Former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has also addressed the situation, distancing himself from the verdict. Mancini disputed the findings and stated that any issues regarding his own contract—which was allegedly part of the financial breaches via a side agreement with an Abu Dhabi-based club—are the club’s responsibility rather than his own.
