Manchester City faces scrutiny as officials slam Premier League delay

Former football executives have criticized the Premier League regarding the ongoing investigation into Manchester City’s alleged 115 breaches of financial rules. Despite a 12-week hearing concluding in December 2024, an independent commission has yet to release a verdict.

Lord Alan Sugar, former Tottenham chairman, suggested the club has “got away with bloody murder” due to the lengthy delay, speculating that significant legal spending may be influencing the process. Meanwhile, former Manchester City chairman David Bernstein argued that the club’s recent £440 million summer spending spree “makes a mockery” of financial regulation in the league.

Manchester City continues to strenuously deny all allegations of wrongdoing. The eventual decision from the commission could result in either the club being cleared or facing significant historic sanctions.
