Manchester City found guilty of over 100 financial rule breaches

An independent commission has found Manchester City guilty of 114 out of 115 alleged breaches of Premier League financial regulations between the 2009/10 and 2017/18 seasons. The findings indicate the club used sham commercial agreements and disguised funding from its owner, Abu Dhabi United Group, to inflate revenues and understate costs by more than £900 million.

The commission concluded that the club submitted inaccurate financial reports and attempted to circumvent Premier League rules. While the club has appealed the decision, the Premier League is reportedly facing pressure from other club directors to investigate whether similar breaches occurred in seasons following 2018.

The club faces significant uncertainty regarding potential penalties, which could include the stripping of titles. This legal development has coincided with a period of fluctuating performance on the pitch for the team.
