Manchester City hosts Sunderland in Premier League clash

Manchester City hosts Sunderland at the Etihad Stadium for a Premier League fixture on Sunday, September 20, 2026. City enters the match with a perfect record of four wins from four league games, seeking to extend their lead at the top of the table. Manager Enzo Maresca has described the upcoming match as potentially the “toughest game of the season” due to Sunderland's strength and motivation.

Sunderland, currently in 14th place, arrives following a midweek Europa League victory against AZ Alkmaar. While City is heavily favored, they face challenges including the suspension of Phil Foden and the potential absence of Jeremy Doku. Erling Haaland remains a central figure for City after scoring four league goals this season.

Sunderland is expected to rely on players such as Granit Xhaka and Enzo Le Fée to challenge City's defense. The match follows a period of high activity for both clubs, with City also recently securing a 5-0 win over Norwich in the Carabao Cup.
