Manchester City appoint Enzo Maresca as new manager on three‑year deal

Manchester City announced that Italian coach Enzo Maresca has been appointed as head‑coach on a three‑year contract that runs until the summer of 2029, succeeding Pep Guardiola after his decade‑long tenure. Maresca, 46, previously served as a City assistant during the 2022‑23 treble‑winning season, led the club’s Elite Development Squad to a Premier League 2 title, and later managed Leicester City and Chelsea, winning the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup with the Blues. To secure his release from Chelsea, City paid a compensation package of roughly £17 million (about €20 million). In his first public statements Maresca said the club is “incredibly well‑run” and that he looks forward to “winning, playing good football and enjoying the pressure of representing Manchester City.” The appointment comes as City plan significant squad strengthening, with a reported £116 million signing of midfielder Elliot Anderson already underway.
