Real Madrid pursue Rodri as Manchester City eyes Ayyoub Bouaddi

Manchester City midfielder Rodri, 30, is under contract until June 2027 and has recently undergone minor back surgery. The Spain international, who won the 2026 World Cup Golden Ball, has attracted intense interest from Real Madrid. Real Madrid have opened negotiations, with first contact confirmed by journalist Fabrizio Romano and approval from president Florentino Pérez. The club is prepared to offer more than €50 million – roughly £43 million – to sign the player, who has rejected PSG and expressed a desire to return to La Liga.

Manchester City, anticipating Rodri’s possible departure, have identified Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi as his replacement. The 18‑year‑old, under contract with Lille until 30 June 2029 and valued at €80‑100 million, is the focus of advanced talks. City have described the deal as “all‑in”, with a potential fee of €70‑80 million, and say the timing of Bouaddi’s arrival will depend on whether Rodri leaves. City have also extended defender Abdukodir Khusanov’s contract to 2031 and are pursuing other extensions to safeguard their squad.
