Elliot Anderson completes £116 million move to Manchester City
England midfielder Elliot Anderson, 23, has agreed to join Manchester City from Nottingham Forest for a reported £116 million fee, the highest ever paid for a British player. The deal, described as the club‑record signing, was finalised while Anderson is on duty at the 2026 World Cup, with his medical scheduled in the United States after England’s Group L match against Panama.
The transfer is seen as a statement of intent for City as they enter a new era following Pep Guardiola’s departure and the appointment of Enzo Maresca. Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher said Anderson could form a “formidable” midfield partnership with Rodri, while former Manchester United captain Roy Keane called the move “great” albeit warning it must be completed quickly so it does not distract the player from the tournament. The £116 million fee also makes Anderson the most expensive signing in City’s history, surpassing Jack Grealish’s 2021 deal.
City’s summer overhaul includes other departures and arrivals, but Anderson is billed as the marquee acquisition to spearhead the midfield under the new manager.
