Manchester residential developments advance with major tower projects
Manchester is seeing significant residential development activity through two major projects. Developer McGoff has received a planning recommendation for a 153-flat Build-to-Rent tower. The project, which has secured a £27.4m loan from the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, includes a redesigned 17-storey structure featuring a 13-metre gap to separate it from the Marble Arch pub. Despite the redesign, the pub and the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) continue to oppose the development due to concerns regarding its scale and potential business disruption.
Separately, Renaker has reached a Section 106 agreement with Manchester City Council for a large-scale residential scheme on Great Jackson Street. This deal could deliver up to £114 million toward affordable housing. The development includes five towers, most notably the 71-storey Lighthouse, which is projected to be the tallest building in the UK outside of London. The Lighthouse is expected to cost approximately £235 million to construct, while the remaining four towers in the cluster, known as The Green, represent an investment of over £570 million.
