Manchester United and Barcelona clash over Marcus Rashford's future

Manchester United is frustrated with FC Barcelona over the £30 million option to buy forward Marcus Rashford, who is currently on loan at the Spanish club. Barcelona is reportedly willing to pay only about half of the agreed price, prompting United to consider abandoning the deal and possibly selling Rashford elsewhere. Sir Jim Ratcliffe, co‑owner of United, has also urged a move to reduce the club’s wage bill.

Rashford, 28, has contributed 14 goals and 14 assists for Barcelona this season while preparing for the 2026 World Cup with England. His performances have earned praise from England teammate Ollie Watkins, who called Rashford’s talent "scary" in a recent interview. Several Premier League sides, including Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle, Tottenham and Aston Villa, have been linked with the player, but United is reluctant to strengthen direct rivals.

The dispute could affect United’s summer transfer plans and Barcelona’s squad building ahead of the new campaign.
