Manchester United unveils new 100,000‑seat stadium near Old Trafford

Manchester United announced that its proposed new 100,000‑seat stadium will be built about 350 metres north‑west of the existing Old Trafford ground. The venue will be the flagship of the Trafford Wharfside masterplan, a mixed‑use development that will transform the surrounding area into a year‑round sports and entertainment district.

The project is expected to create roughly 48 000 local jobs, add 15 000 new homes and generate an estimated £7.3 billion a year for the UK economy. Initial cost estimates are around £2 billion, with the club aiming to complete the stadium by the 2030‑31 season. Design details are still being finalised; the club has not ruled out a naming‑rights deal and says the stadium will be built with fan input.

Trafford Council will hold a public consultation after a council decision expected on 20 July. No final decision has yet been made about the future of the current Old Trafford stadium.
