Manchester United appoint Michael Carring permanent head coach

Manchester United confirmed Michael Carrick as the club’s permanent head coach on a two‑year contract running to 2028. The 44‑year‑old, who took over on an interim basis in January after the dismissal of Ruben Amorim, guided United to a third‑place Premier League finish and secured a return to the UEFA Champions League.

During his interim spell United recorded wins over Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and several other top clubs, achieving 11 victories and three draws in 16 matches. Carrick’s backroom team, including Steve Holland, Jonathan Woodgate, Jonny Evans and Travis Binnion, are also expected to remain on board.

In his statement Carrick said, “From the moment that I arrived here 20 years ago, I felt the magic of Manchester United. Carrying the responsibility of leading our special football club fills me with immense pride.” Director of Football Jason Wilcox added, “Michael has thoroughly earned the opportunity… his achievements in leading the club back to the Champions League should not be understated.”
