Manchester United backs off Tonali deal, eyes new midfield targets

Manchester United has withdrawn from pursuing Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, whose valuation exceeds £100 million, and from a potential £120 million move for Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson. The pull‑back reflects heightened competition and cost pressures, including interest from Manchester City.

Instead, United are focusing on other areas, with left‑back Lewis Hall highlighted as a realistic summer target. The club is also preparing an opening bid for West Ham United’s Portuguese midfielder Mateus Fernandes, whose asking price is set at €92.7 million (£80 million). West Ham have indicated they are not in a hurry to sell, and the deal remains uncertain.
