Manchester United bans 685 season-ticket holders

Manchester United has banned 685 season-ticket holders following an investigation into the abuse of the club’s ticketing system for financial gain. The probe targeted 1,617 accounts flagged for unusual activity, including the operation of organized networks that controlled and distributed tickets from hundreds of accounts.

Of those investigated, 499 bans were upheld following an appeals process involving fan representatives. An additional 73 supporters were banned for failing to appeal, and 113 were sanctioned after failing to respond to repeated information requests. Conversely, 238 supporters had their penalties reduced to restrictions on transferring home tickets or purchasing away tickets, and 468 cases were cleared after satisfactory explanations were provided.

The club stated that these actions aim to ensure fair access for genuine fans. All released season tickets will be offered to those on the club’s waiting list, and refunds will be issued to the banned holders. The crackdown has sparked backlash, with the fan group The 1958 planning protests ahead of the Manchester derby. Some supporters have also criticized the club’s communication style as overly aggressive.
